Book Review - The Possessions by Sara Flannery Murphy
I chose this book for my Book of the Month Club selection because I thought the premise was really creative. The Elysian Society is an organization that offers its clients the opportunity to channel the spirits of their deceased loved ones through living "bodies." The success of The Elysian Society lies in the strict rules that are put in place by the founder: "Bodies" wear the possessions of deceased loved ones and take pills called lotuses. The lotuses provided by The Elysian Society are some of the safest on the market. In addition, "bodies" are required to only channel deceased loved ones that are actually known by the individual wishing to communicate with them and never to channel loved ones who've committed suicide.
The main character is Edie who, for five years, was the most reliable and professional "body" working at the organization. But then she meets Patrick...
The premise of this book didn't disappoint - it was a truly unique idea and a great story! The writing was simple and straight forward making this book a quick and easy read.
