“The Best That I Could Do” Mai Tai

“The Best That I Could Do” Mai Tai | I love drinking Mai Tais on vacation. The best ones are in Hawaii and Cabo. I’ve been trying to re-create the perfect Mai Tai at home but it is SO difficult to get it right. This is the best recipe I’ve come up with so far. I’m beginning to think the tropical air is what gives this drink its special something.

INGREDIENTS:
- 3/4 oz dark rum
- 1 1/4 oz light rum
- 1/2 oz orange juice
- 1/2 oz cointreau
- 1/2 oz orgeat syrup
- 1.5 oz pineapple juice
- 1 tsp of grenadine (or a VERY light splash)
- Orange or pineapple wedge for garnish

DIRECTIONS:
Mix all ingredients except for the dark rum in a mixing glass. Stir. Fill a glass with ice and pour in mixture. Create a dark rum floater by pouring dark rum over the back of a spoon on top of mixture. This makes the drink look pretty but it is important to mix the dark rum into the drink prior to drinking it (I don’t think dark rum tastes good on its own…it is much better mixed in.) Enjoy.
