Author Interview - Andrea Thome
Author of Mine Again--Sunflower Book One
About Mine Again--Sunflower Book One:
Delilah Spencer is a rolling stone. A big city attorney from Chicago on a temporary work assignment in Sunflower, Montana.
Ranger Beckham's Sunflower roots run deep. Three generations to be exact. The high school band director and single father is adrift, fresh out of a marriage of convenience. He's all but given up on finding true love.
Until he bumps into Delilah, the fixer with trust issues who has a hard and fast rule: never get attached to the places she visits or the people in them. They strike a deal when the chemistry between them burns too hot to ignore, convincing themselves they'll be able to part as friends when Delilah's gig is up, no matter how scorching things get between them.
But the slower pace in tight-knit Sunflower is a balm for Delilah's restless soul, and it becomes impossible to imagine leaving Ranger or Montana behind.
Will Delilah break her own rules and finally put down roots, or will she cut and run when her contract is up, leaving Ranger and the life she never knew she wanted in the rearview mirror?
A small-town, friends-to-lovers, found-family, single-dad romance, Mine Again is the first book in the Sunflower Series.
Author I draw inspiration from:
2026: I read everything, but some of my favorite authors include Carley Fortune, Alex Aster, Cat Sebastian, Abby Jimenez, Sally Thorne, Kristin Hannah, Elizabeth O'Roark, Rachel Reid, Rachel Lynn Solomon, Christina Lauren, Emily Henry, Tessa Bailey--I could go on and on. I'm a voracious reader!
2018: Diana Gabaldon—I admire her ability to weave her characters in and out of her books so effortlessly.

Favorite place to read a book:
2026: I read every night in bed, but I love to read pool side when I'm on vacation. I always read when I'm on an airplane. I'm not a great flier and it helps whisk me away to another world.
2018: In bed or in my screened in porch.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:
2026: She would need to time travel to the year of the elevator, but I wouldn't mind picking Claire Frazier's brain from Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. And if Jamie Frazier were with her--BONUS!
2018: Claire and Jamie Fraser from Outlander. (Although it would be weird for them to be in an elevator.)

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:
2026: When I finished writing my first book, Walland in 2016. I showed it to a few friends and they demanded a second (and eventually, third) book. I was hooked on sharing my stories at that point.
2018: I think in some ways I’ve always known, but the true desire resurfaced after the death of my mom who was also a writer.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:
2026: I don't discriminate. I love to read books in all forms--but when traveling, I do find having a kindle is helpful. When I finish a book--I want a new one right there waiting. But if a book is a favorite and I've read it electronically--I almost always buy myself a physical copy. I rarely listen to audiobooks--generally only when I'm on a long drive--but when I do, I really enjoy them and become engrossed. There are some talented narrators out there who can bring books to life in a very impressive way.
2018: Paperback is my favorite, but I read ebooks and listen to audiobooks as well. (I have the most talented narrator for my series of books—she’s a Yale-trained actress, and I could listen to her all day long!) I think all three have value.
The last book I read:
2026: I just finished The Calamity Club by by Kathryn Stockett and it was FABULOUS. One of those books you want to savor because you know you'll be sad when it's over. I'm still thinking about those characters.
2018: I actually just re-read Stephen King’s On Writing. Before that, Sing, Unburied Sing by Jesmyn Ward.

Pen & paper or computer:
2026: My brain moves much too quickly to rely only on pen and paper while drafting a manuscript. I do use notebooks to keep track of character traits, to do lists, and ideas that spring up out of nowhere, but I do all my drafting on a keyboard.
2018: Computer, hands down. I can’t even read my own handwriting anymore. I type really fast, so I’m impatient when working with a pen.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with:
2026: January Andrews writes romance--and she's on a solitary writing retreat at the start of Emily Henry's Beach Read, which is something I love to do. I think we'd probably be fast friends with much in common.
2018: Laina Ming, the lead character in my new book, House of Belonging. She’s the kind of friend I like; strong, independent and funny.

If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a:
2026: Podcaster. I love connecting with people and hearing their stories. I have a background in television and think that would be a fun career to explore. At this age--I have a face for radio!
2018: Photographer. I take all of the pictures for my covers. I love to travel too, so I’d probably make a pretty decent gypsy as an alternative.
Favorite decade in fashion history:
2026: I love the 1950's for the clean lines and classic clothing and men in beautifully tailored suits, but I think it would have been fun to be a teenager in the 1960's, too.
2018: Ooh. That’s tough. Probably the 1960’s. You had everything from the buttoned-up classic look of Jackie Kennedy to the free style of the hippies. I like diversity in fashion. There needs to be something for everyone.
Place I’d most like to travel:
2026: I've always wanted to go hiking in Patagonia--I'm a huge lover of the outdoors and if I could hike every day, I would. I've never been anywhere in South America, so why not head to the southern-most area and work my way up?
2018: Everywhere! But my top three uncharted locales are Iceland, Scotland and Bhutan.

My signature drink:
2026: I'm not a huge drinker, but when I do, I love a nice glass of Amarone. An occasional old fashioned by the fire isn't bad, either. But on the daily? I'll always order an unsweetened ice tea.
2018: I’m not a big drinker, but when I do drink, it’s almost always whiskey, neat…and sometimes an Old Fashioned.
Favorite artist:
2026: I've always loved Vermeer's work--even more so after I read Girl with a Pearl Earring. And I visited Monet's home and gardens in Giverny, France with my mom on a very special trip--so his artwork always makes me reflect fondly on that experience. Art is about evoking a feeling for me.
2018: Music artist? U2 Favorite Painter? Vermeer
Number one on my bucket list:
2026: My husband and I are going to hook up our Airstream Camper and hit the road this fall, traveling up into Canada to get lost in the woods. I can't wait. I grew up camping and yearn to get back to the woods with my guy.
2018: I’d love to drive across Canada pulling an airstream trailer, then head south and drive back again across the U.S. I love the nostalgia of camping. I’d light a fire every single night, prop my feet up and write about my travels and the people I met along the way. There is so much to see in the world and so little time.

About Andrea Thome:
Andrea Thome almost graduated from college (just three credits shy!) before she was hired away to start working as a sports reporter for a local television station. She went on to anchor both sports and news for affiliates in her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, where she interviewed and fell in love with her husband of almost thirty years, Hall of Fame Baseball player, Jim Thome.
She’s happy with the way things worked out.
Andrea won both Ben Franklin and NAIA awards for her popular Hesse Creek Trilogy, set in Eastern Tennessee and Aspen, two of her favorite places in the world. In the black hole that was 2020-2021, she produced three new manuscripts in an effort to avoid thinking about the state of the world.
The first of those books is coming to a bookshelf near you in October 2026!
An avid baseball and hockey fan, Andrea also loves hiking, traveling, and cheering on her two children, whose remarkable achievements have designated her to fourth place in the family pecking order.
She prefers to think of it as batting clean up.
