Author of Hooked
In this suspenseful thriller by Caitlin Rother, a journalist and cop fight a sexual attraction as they join forces to expose a layered scheme of dark and dangerous secrets.
When investigative reporter Katrina Chopin and surfing homicide detective Ken Goode lock eyes, there’s an immediate attraction. Sparks fly as they bond over cocktails, sharing their common experiences of being orphans and losing loved ones to suicide.
But the next time they meet, it’s from opposing sides of a high-profile case. Two biotech execs, whose company is developing a groundbreaking sexual enhancement drug, turn up dead in the wealthy seaside enclave of La Jolla Farms, where Goode can readily see that the forensic evidence doesn’t add up.
As they work their own angles, sometimes together and sometimes at odds, their growing attraction threatens to cost them their jobs―and their lives. As Katrina and Goode pursue answers behind these mysterious events, a secret stalker taunts Katrina with details of her tragic past, which takes her to the brink of death. But once the duo rips the mask away from this beautiful paradise, the corrupt underbelly behind all that glitters is revealed.

Favorite place to read a book:
Couch
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:
Mickey Haller, but only if it's the actor who plays him in the “Lincoln Lawyer” TV series, based on the books by Michael Connelly. I'm sure we'd have a scintillating conversation.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:
When I designed, illustrated and wrote my first crime book in the first grade for a school assignment. It was about a family of mice that lived in the forest and my mother was very concerned when I killed off the mother mouse. But I said where is the story if no one dies?
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:
Hardcovers are too expensive for some folks, paperbacks get bent easily, you can't get an author's signature on either an ebook or audiobook. But I support readers' ability to read a book in whatever format they like.
The last book I read:
The Gods of Guilt, by Michael Connelly. I read it because it was the book on which the Lincoln Lawyer season 3 was based. It was a suspenseful page-turner.

Pen & paper or computer:
Pen and paper when I'm jotting down plot ideas, but from the outline forward, it's always the computer. Totally different neural pathways. As a newspaper reporter, I took notes by hand, but always typed my stories on deadline. I still like to edit on a paper printout.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with:
Sorry, couldn't think of one. I've been a true crime author for many years, so those characters aren't really friend material. Other than some of the detectives, lawyers or prosecutors in my own true crime books, who I've interviewed!
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:
I’d go back to being an investigative reporter, maybe for print again, but maybe this time I’d try long-form TV or documentaries.
Favorite decade in fashion history:
Fashion is not my area but I like the art deco period
Place I’d most like to travel:
I've wanted to go to Italy my whole life. But every time I try to plan a trip there, something derails it.
My signature drink:
Sugar-free grapefruit soda and/or the occasional glass of Chardonnay
Favorite artist:
Frederic Chopin, composer
Number one on my bucket list:
Getting a movie or limited series made based on one of my books. I've gotten close, but never got it done.
