Author of Falling into the Silence

“'Falling into the Silence” is a collection of short stories told by a rainbow of characters that explore universal themes of memory and moving on. Each story paints a picture of how families can cause pain and self-doubt, but also push us towards self-discovery, illustrating how home doesn’t end when we leave. Home is a place we hold inside us forever.

Author I draw inspiration from: Amy Hempel - an amazing voice in American short fiction. Her new book, Sing to it, is magical.

Favorite place to read a book: Feeding the birds and sitting on my porch as the sun sets while the crows in the ash tree caw and jockey for the final peanut of the day.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Can it be a real person? Then it would Hope Jahren from Lab Girl. I can't think of anyone more interesting than someone who has spent their life studying trees and plant life with such passion.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: It wasn't until two years ago that I discovered the joy in writing and sharing stories that connected me with the world. Now I'm hooked on writing.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Paperback...sometimes eBook if I'm stuck in a waiting room.

The last book I read: I just finished My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She's Sorry by Fredrik Backman. What a marvelous story.

Pen & paper or computer: I write on the computer mostly, sometimes iPad, sometimes iPhone, but never pen and paper because I'd never be able to read my handwriting.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Scout Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The child inside of me has always been inspired by her heart and bravery. I would have loved to climb a tree with her.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: Zookeeper, if they'd have me. My job would be petting the big cats and feeding the penguins.

Favorite decade in fashion history: The '60's, absolutely! Torn jeans and floppy hats, leather fringe and anything tie-dyed. I miss it so. Wait! That's the style today! See, it's ageless.

Place I’d most like to travel: I dream of traveling to the Amazon rainforest where I would stay in a tree house, sing with the birds and dance with the monkeys.

My signature drink: Boba tea - not so much for the tea but for the candy-like sugary Boba at the bottom.

Favorite artist: I adore Marc Chagall with his airborne cows and floating lovers wrapped in glorious color.

Number one on my bucket list: To finish my new book, and then travel to Africa - not necessarily in that order!

Anything else you'd like to add: Having only begun to write in my 60's, I'd encourage everyone to tell their story now. Don't wait.
