Hi everyone! I'm happy to have Jen, Suree, and Paola from The Millennial Martha writing the first ever guest post on Hasty Book List! As I'm sure you know by now, I'm a huge fan of book clubs and at one time I was a member of 4! Now that I'm splitting my time between Chicago and Bloomington, IN I don't have time to meet with 4 book clubs, but book clubs are still one of my all-time favorite things to do and a great way to get together with friends! The girls over at Millennial Martha put together this fabulous how-to guide for hosting a book club. I hope you enjoy!
Half the fun in being part of a book club is attending the get together to talk about it – at least if you’re The Millennial Martha it is. We’re sharing our go-to plan for a great book discussion night
Food
Finger foods are the best for discussion groups. With appetizers being only a few bites each, they can nibble and easily participate in the conversation. If there’s a theme to the book, like Roaring 20s, you could carry that through into your food. If not, we have a few of our must-haves for get togethers: Arancini Balls with Marinara Sauce, Stuffed Mushrooms, Mushroom & Bacon Dip and Shrimp Skewers.
Our appetizer gives us a good mix of yummy indulgence (hello, Arancini Balls) and protein packed bites (enter Shrimp Skewers). Plus, we always recommend having a mix of appetizers that are inclusive of dietary restrictions like Gluten Free or Vegetarian.
Drinks
Rose is all the rage now so why not lean into it? We love having a simple punch or sangria on hand for a group gathering. In particular, we’re loving this Peach Rose Sangria. Add a few fresh slices of fruit to it for some texture and dimension. If you don’t have Crate & Barrel’s stemless wine glasses yet, we highly recommend grabbing them. They’re the perfect vessel for drinks like sangria!
Game Cards
One of the best parts about book club is the discussion around the book. Why not add some flavor to your questions by printing them on pretty Paper Source paper? Using a template from The Millennial Martha, you can easily type your questions and print at home.

Goody Bag
Nothing ties a night together like favors that fit the theme. If there’s a theme to your book, we recommend trying to fit it. However, if there’s not we love the idea of leaning into a relaxing reading night and giving out small sachets of David’s Tea, a bookmark, little chocolates or even a mini candle.
