150,000 years ago, an alien ship crashed into Alaska’s Mendenhall Glacier and froze within the ice . . . until glacial melting thawed out its deadly inhabitants in the present day.
Kai and Jules Bevins, both professors of astrobiology at Cal Tech are roused from their home and whisked away to the site of the find where a special division of the Army has taken charge. But not before something escaped through a breach in the hull.
Meanwhile, a pair of Alaska State Troopers locate a missing Amazon driver fifteen miles away on the Juneau Icefield and trace his movements to a small nearby village with a population of less than fifty. Arriving in the town, they are greeted by the bodies of some of those villagers who were killed in an impossible, horrific way.
Thousands of miles away, under a remote archaeological find in Pakistan the Nine, a team of superbeings, placed on Earth a million years ago by intergalactic colonizers that seeded our planet to create human life, stirs from stasis. Lifted from their long slumber because the kind of threat they’ve been waiting for has finally come.
Science cannot explain the condition of the bodies found in that Alaskan village. Nor can it explain why an old, disease-ridden woman and infant were the only survivors from the deadly night before. That is, until the coming of darkness triggers an attack against special ops soldiers and Kai Bevins. Though they manage to prevail, Kai realizes it was only the escaped creatures’ offspring. With contact lost with the command post at the glacier, including his cancer-stricken wife and young daughter the couple was forced to bring into harm’s way, the team’s only choice is to head to a nearby fishing village.
Even though they know what might be waiting for them.
It’s there that both the escaped creatures and the Nine who are on Earth to stop them have their first confrontation, which is merely a harbinger of far bigger battles to come against thousands of the creatures’ spawn which are reproducing so fast that the entire planet is in jeopardy. In the wake of that, the Nine and their high-tech weapons lead a fight for survival that races from a secret underground base, to an epic struggle against the full-grown creatures at sea, to a yet bigger battle in the besieged city of Juneau. All leading to a confrontation on a volcanic island that will determine the fate of mankind.
Fortunately, the Nine find unexpected allies culled from the ancient history of their home world in the form of a teenage boy and god-like entity, as well as Jules who’s been newly invigorated by nanobots that vanquished her cancer while enhancing every aspect of her being. And the Nine will need all the help they can get, even as they uncover the shattering truth behind their own tragic paths and learn of a much greater battle to come.

Pen & paper or computer:
My writing process usually starts away from the computer. I like to sit somewhere comfortable — sometimes on my couch, sometimes in a bookstore, and sometimes outside in nature — and just think through the story. I’ll use pen and paper to jot down ideas, plot points, character beats, or moments that come to me. That part of the process feels more open and creative. Once I have a sense of where I’m going, I move to the computer, where the real work of shaping the scene, chapter, or story begins.
